When I started blogging way back 2011, I have no knowledge at all on how to run a blog. It started as an online diary with so much to improve. Having a simple blog layout, blurred photos (low quality photos) and a poor content ( a messed up diary ). Then I started to feel that maybe blogging isn't for me because no one reads my blog at all. Then I asked myself, Am I doing it right? Then changes started to happen when I began to read and research. So today, I'll share with you this simple knowledge that I've learned as a blogger. For those who wanted to create a blog, who's starting to blog and who's learning to blog, here are my six simple ways on how to attract readers to your blog. Ready? Read on.
If you're like me 5 years ago, wondering why does nobody reads your blog then maybe it's time for you to take a lift.
1. MAKE IT PRESENTABLE
What's the first thing you noticed when you visit a blog? It's the layout right? Your layout represents you. As much as possible make it presentable, make it clean and friendly. It's like going to a party, if you'd like to be noticed wear something nice. Same goes with your blog, if you want to attract readers, give them a reason to visit your blog. It's nice to read when everything is on placed. If you're still starting and learning it's best for you to make a research. There are alot of free blogger templates, I got mine at Gooyabi but you need to learn how to tweak. Again, the keyword here is research.
2. PROVIDE A GOOD QUALITY CONTENT
May you be a fashion, food, lifestyle, tech, beauty, travel or a mommy blogger it is important to provide your readers a good quality content. Always remember that you're not just blogging for yourself but you are blogging to share something. It is much better to write something that is informative and inspiring.
3. READ OTHER BLOGS AND LEAVE A GENUINE COMMENT
"Do unto others what you want others to Do unto You". This does apply on blogging as well. Let's say you already have a presentable blog, provides good quality content but nobody knew your blog existed. So how on earth will someone read your blog? Again, in the blogosphere, our fellow bloggers are our friends and not our competitors. We are here to support each other and not to compete with them. The best way to support each other is by visiting and reading their blogs but make sure to leave a comment, a genuine one. I love visiting, reading and exploring other blogs and I make sure to show some love by dropping a genuine comment. Trust me, once you have showed some blog love, that blogger will most likely return the favor and will visit your blog as well. This might sound odd but with that you just created a possible circle of friends. Just make sure you really read the blog and not just strolls down and head over the comment section because it sounds really funny when someone just left a comment and when you start reading it, you knew they didn't read your blog at all.
4. JOIN BLOGGING COMMUNITY
The best way to expose your blog is to join a blogging community. It helps me a lot, and it even inspires me to become a better blogger. I was part of The Girls Inspired Group (GIG) when I first started a blog. I gained so many virtual blogging friends and right now, I am part of an awesome community here in my hometown, CEBU BLOGGING COMMUNITY (CBC). I am invited through actual events, exchange of blog loves, share your blog posts on social medias, gained new blogger friends and a lot more!
5. UPDATE YOUR BLOG REGULARLY
Avoid being MIA (missing in action). Update your blog regularly as possible. It's okay to take a break once in a while but make sure to make a blog post about you being MIA for a long time so they will know that you're taking a break for the mean time.
6. MAKE YOUR COMMENT BOX VISIBLE AND AVOID PLUG-INS
This one is really crucial, there are bloggers that are leaving their blog links on my comment box but when I visited their blogs and about to comment, I can't find their comment box. It's either it took a while to load or it's hidden somewhere. I used disquss plug-in before but because of my observations, I removed it. It took a while to load and trust me, it will really make your reader hit the x button instead of leaving some blog love. I'd prefer a default comment box because it's visible and it's easier to hit the comment button. I don't have a problem with plug-ins though, it's just that I find it really unfriendly.
There you have it, those are my SIX simple ways on how to attract readers to your blog based on my blogging experience. How about you? What are your ways? By the way, don't forget to leave your links so I can pay your blog a visit! Have a lovely day!

DeleteRica, these are all good ideas for blogging. My biggest pet peeve after a generic comment is trying to find the person's blog... a lot of them go back to Google with no links... it's frustrating and time consuming. Even if mine went back to Google I have clear links there. I need to write a post soon, I've been overwhelmed lately ♡

DeleteHello Rica! Recently discovered your blog thanks to La Looula!
ReplyDeleteI'm always looking for this kind of articles, because at the end a very good idea or a business can born from a blog! But there are important steps to follow or strategies to take as you mentioned in this post!
Some bloggers thinks that is so easy to make the BOOM and actually it won't happen from night to day! It takes time as any job.
Best regards and have a lovely weekend :)

Thanks Dear! :)
DeleteTrue, it's all about the content and the look. Kasi if I where to put my feet in the readers side, I wouldn't even want to read and stay to a site that's very untidy and nothing to be inspired or know. right?
ReplyDeleteWhen I first started blogging and realize that no one reads it, I did think of stopping as well but I realized that blogging really helps me alot when it comes to my insecurities, especially my english vocabulary. I know until now I still have grammar flaws, but having my blog I can now practice and learn.
So I guess, I need to improve my number 2 and 4. :) This is such a a great tip for me since I just started my new and improved blog site.
