Gabii Sa Kabilin 2013 : Heritage Night
Last Friday night I was invited by my friend Chrissie to attend an event where we would be able to visit different museums here in Cebu. The event called "Gabii Sa Kabilin" (Heritage Night).
Gabii sa Kabilin was organized by Ramond Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) culture and heritage unit and it's partners. Today, I will be showing the photo diary of the event where I was able to enjoy watching the performances that was done by the University of Cebu Dance Group, Carcar City Festival dancers and to Ms. Kim Martinez who sings lovely sugbuanon songs at Museo Sugbo.
Gosh! It's raining but people doesn't really care, there were drummers on the entrance that welcomed all the guest with their extreme tribal beat.
This is the main entrance of Museo Sugbo , as you see people aren't afraid of the rain after all. An event like this shouldn't be miss not only by Cebuano people but as well as to the tourist from other countries.
Now we started rooming around the museum to witness all the artifacts and other crafts that was displayed at the museum.
Wooah! I know! This is a plentiful cash! I was able to spot one peso bill here. awesome! No coins that time :) lol. Anyway, these were GUERILLA money, the money that was prepared during the war between the Imperial Japanese Forces .
After rooming around the museum, we hurriedly went to the center ground to witness the presentation that they prepared for all the guest. It wasn't just an ordinary dancing and singing but it is a presentation of our culture. Here are some of the photos I've gathered from that night's presentation.
The presentation ended up with the One Cebu song, recognition of the guests, host, music band and all the partners that made that event a successful one. Right after the presentation, since me and my friend Chrissie were a little hungry we hurriedly rode to the bus which were provided by the event organizers. There were 30 buses for all the attendees to easily hop into the places that they wanted to visit. Our next stop will be at the Casa Gorordo ,one of the old houses that was owned by the first Filipino bishop of Cebu, Juan Gorordo (1862 - 1934).
As we arrived at Casa Gorordo, we hurriedly went inside and we were slightly scared because it was too dark. There were no lights and all I did was taking photos with flash on for me to see what's inside.
I wasn't aware that time that there was a black theater who offers a little presentation to the guest. There I was! capturing the black theater with the flash on, haha.. My bad! I'm sorry I destroyed the moment. peace^_^
Then we proceeded to the second level of the house where the rooms were located.
At the first room you will be able to see a small like chapel/prayer room.
The second room was a bedroom, this is how it looks like. Imagine how scary it was to sleep in a room like this with a bed way way way older than you. I was really hoping I can capture a ghost. (lol) :)
There's also a small library where you can find old books like the famous Noli Me Tangere book. A famous novel that was written by our Philippine National hero Dr. Jose Rizal.
That is Sungka, a Philippine mancala game which is also played today wherever Philippine migrants are living. The game was also displayed on the living room area of Casa Gorordo.
The dining area was located at the edge part of the house. I wasn't able to take a photo of the dining area but I was able to capture this cabinet that was full of antique plates, jars, mugs and goblets.
This is how big the lawn area of the house is, it's old designed reminds me of the Spanish Era.
Outside the house you can also see some artifacts that were displayed during that night.
Right after our scary tour inside Casa Gorordo we walked for 10 minutes to reached our next destination which is the Yap - Sandiego house. It's the last destination that we visited since my friend Chrissie was already starving to death and kept on complaining already. (urgh! yea, she's lazy sometimes) I have no choice but to agree with her since it was late already.
We weren't able to tour around inside as I've mentioned that we're already starving and our tummy was complaining already. Still, I was delighted and happy that I was able to capture the structure of the house. I already felt I was part of this house, with all the flags outside and the wide windows with the beautiful curtains. It actually reminds me of an old house in our province. I really had a wonderful time visiting these heritage sites that we have here in Cebu.
Gabii sa Kabilin was actually offering more than 30 heritage sites/museums around Cebu and we were able to visit only three. I guess I'll just visit the other heritage sites on the next Gabii sa Kabilin which is probably next year. I'm really hoping for that and lesson learned, we really should have eaten dinner before proceeding to the area. Thank you so much Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. and to all the partners for organizing a remarkable event like this. See you all on the next Gabii Sa Kabilin. ^_^ God Bless you all and More power!
