VLOGGER SPOTLIGHT : MICAH ANGELA (A Filipina who vlogs her Life in Korea)
A lot of us from the Philippines have been a fan of watching Korean Drama's and fantasizing over (Korean actors) with the character that they portray. We fell in love with their charismatic look and I must say that we also wanted to experience that kind of love story. I, myself have several Korean Celebrity crushes (my oppás) like Park Seo joon, Lee Jong Suk and lately I was gushing over the second lead of Netflix K-drama Series, Start-Up's good boy, Han Ji Pyeong or known as Kim Seon Ho in real life. To be honest, there's (99+ others) oppa's as the list goes on and on.
So today, in relation with my love for Korean dramas, I will be featuring a fellow Filipina vlogger whom I met online. She's now living her life in South Korea, with her very own oppa. Well, actually she mentioned that her husband, (yes! husband! :)) is actually younger than her, so they don't call that oppa. (Since they only call oppa when the guy is older than you.) I'm pretty sure you're all excited to hear her love story that most of you have been dreaming.
I am also excited for this interview and the moment she said yes to be featured here on my blog, I was so delighted and super happy for she is super humble, super kind, super sweet and she supports fellow influencers too. So, thank you so much Micah for saying yes for this interview. Are you ready? Let's go!
TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF AND HOW YOU GOT INTO VLOGGING?
I'm Micah Angela Kim, born on December 31, 1987 at San Pedro Laguna, Philippines. I graduated my Masters in Nursing at Inha University, Incheon Korea. Currently, I am working as an English/Korean guide in one of the biggest steelworks in the world, POSCO. I have been living in Korea for seven years now. I started vlogging because of my love for traveling and I also wanted to share my travel experiences not just in Korea but as well as in other countries too.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT VLOGGING?
Being creative in making contents.
WHY DID YOU PREFER VLOGGING THAN BLOGGING?
I think I'm more well-spoken than a writer. I was never good in writing. Haha!
WHAT ADVICE CAN YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE WHO JUST STARTED VLOGGING?
Keep on experimenting and don't stress yourself too much. Take it easy with your contents, equipment and editing software. Time will tell which content you are good at and which content you enjoy the most.
Wow! I didn't know you were a tour guide! That's actually one of my childhood dreams! Anyways, let's now talk about you, meeting your husband and your life in Korea.
SO, HOW DID YOU MEET YOUR HUSBAND?
We met here in Korea. He was a graduating high school student while I'm in my Master's program. haha!
Wow. This reminds me of a kdrama love story. (insert kilig face)
HOW DID YOU KNOW THAT HE WAS THE ONE?
We connected well in everything.
Well, haha, I got pregnant before marriage. He said he wanted to take responsibility and to marry me. Even if at first I didn't want to get married. (lol) because I just don't like pushing people and I have an amazing support from my family, so I just don't want him to have any regrets. (lol)
Wow! I admire your husband for being man enough. It's rare and seldom nowadays. Your husband is really for keeps!
WHY DID YOU SETTLE TO LIVE IN KOREA?
I didn't want to. (lol) I always wanted to go back to Philippines since I'm having a hard time being a mom, a full-time worker and a wife, without any help from someone. Back in the Philippines we have a house helper and my parents too, to help me somehow, but here, I have literally no one. Though as years passes by, I'm starting to accept that my life and my kid's life will be here in Korea. Most especially after this pandemic, I realized how lucky we are living here in Korea.
CAN YOU TELL US YOUR SECRET ON HOW TO MAKE IT WORK WHEN YOU HAVE DIFFERENT LANGUAGE AND CULTURE?
Definitely communication and giving way to each other. We don't force each other to change according to what we want, though we express our feelings on how one could have been better. And we try to accept who we are and make amends on how we can fulfill each other's shortcomings.
HOW ARE YOU ABLE TO ADJUST IN THEIR CULTURE?
I'm just very thankful that I love their food, but it has always been difficult for me to adjust to their society and working environment. I just kept on learning Korean to be more fluent and make myself better in sensing things around me (this sensing things around me is kinda difficult to explain, they have this culture of 눈치보고 like some sort of you ajdust/adapt quickly depending on what kind of environment you are in)
YOU HAVE TWO CUTE CHILDREN, DO YOU TALK TO THEM IN TAGALOG (FILIPINO LANGUAGE), KOREAN, ENGLISH OR MIX?
Only Korean and English.
IF TRAVELING WILL BE OKAY SOON, WHAT ARE THE TOURIST DESTINATIONS IN SOUTH KOREA WOULD YOU RECOMMEND?
It depends on the season. I f It's Spring, I recommend Jinhae. If Autumn, in Gyeongju, If summer, in Jeju and if it's Winter, in Gangwondo.
ANY KOREAN FOOD ASIDE FROM RAMEN, TEOKBOKKI OR SAMGYUPSAL THAT YOU RECOMMEND?
It's endless. Haha! dakbokkeumtang (braised-spicy chicken) is good for lunch. The pajeon (Korean seafood & green onion pancake) and makgeolli (Korean Rice Wine) together is an amazing pair for light snack in the evening.
DO YOU ALSO WATCH KOREAN DRAMAS? AND WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY WATCHING?
Yes of course. I'm currently watching Sisyphus | The Myth (leads: Park Shin Hye, Cho Seung-Woo) (currently streaming on Netlix too.)
WHO IS/ARE YOUR FAVORITE KOREAN ACTOR/ACTRESS?
Park Shin Hye. For actor, Cha Seung Won.
What do you want to tell the readers about wanting to settle down with a Korean?
DON'T! (lol) hahahahaha
Traveling is great, but not really settling down. haha. You have to be fluent in Korean to adapt to conservative Korean culture. Their work culture is also very demanding and stressful.

Thank you so much Micah for answering all the questions and for agreeing for this interview. I was really amazed and surprised with your super honest answers. Now I know that marrying my oppa (PSJ) is hard, I'll just continue admiring him + 99 others by watching their dramas and follow them on their instagram account. hahaha!
I really admire you for being brave and settling down in Korea away from your family as you built your own. Even though you have culture differences you still manage to stay and live an amazing life being a beautiful wife and a mom to two beautiful children. You even look like Korean already, you really blend in. :)
So that's it, I am really thankful that I have found a new friend through social media. We actually get connected on instagram. Thank you for being so kind and I'm looking forward to meeting you personally. Maybe around Autumn or Spring! When Covid is gone! :)
